Rio Tinto appoints new comms chief

The $174bn mining company has appointed Lucy Yurek as group head of comms from HSBC.

Lucy Yurek will take up her new, London-based role as group head of communcations at Rio Tinto on 3 May.

She will join the global metals and mining group, which generated $64bn in revenue in 2021, from HSBC, where she is global head of reputation and oversees the bank’s external comms and campaigns.

Yurek has lived and worked in Hong Kong, Dubai, the US and UK. She will join the leadership team headed by Isabelle Deschamps, who runs legal, governance, ethics and external affairs at Rio Tinto.
