Greene King hires first chief comms and sustainability officer

Pub and brewing company Greene King has appointed former Currys group strategy and corporate affairs director Assad Malic in the new role of chief communications and sustainability officer.

Greene King said Malic will be “accountable for all corporate affairs and communications activity” and be “responsible for the development of Greene King’s strategy to become a sustainable business”. As chief communications and sustainability officer, he will also join the company’s executive board.

Malic joined Dixons Carphone, a predecessor to Currys, in 2017 as group corporate affairs director. He rose to group strategy and corporate affairs director at the business, which was rebranded as Currys last year. Before that he spent 17 years in investment banking, including periods with banks such as Credit Suisse and Citigroup.

Greene King said that, given his background and experience, Malic will take accountability, alongside chief executive Nick Mackenzie, for the “oversight and evolution of Greene King’s strategy”.
